28 weeks
Here I am with a new rounder belly! With this belly comes back pain and rib pain! Baby Micah seems to be growing at a substantial rate with a lot of gumption! :) Most people are shocked to realize I am only at 28 weeks! They usually tactfully say that I am rather large for this stage in pregnancy... I don't mind the attention to my belly as long as the weight gain stays in the belly!
My dear husband got me a new special heat pad to alleviate some of the pain. What a good hubby!
We used my pregnancy as an excuse to buy a long-overdue new mattress and bed frame! We hope this alleviates more pain and aids in sleep.
Article of the week: "Rearing for Happiness" from the magazine New Parent by Nancy Gottesman
This articles touches on "Attachment Parenting" coined by William Sears M.D. It is quite contradictory with the Babywise method. I find it interesting enough to put in my repertoire for Micah.
The article outlines four infant-rearing practices that are instinctive and science-based (so they claim at least)
The Four Practices are:
1. Gives lots of positive touch. Cuddle, carry and hold your baby.
2. Respond quickly to your baby's cries and fusses.
3. Nurse frequently and for as many months as possible. (I slightly disagree with this one just because I want Micah to get a full meal instead of just a snack, which naturally will decrease the number of times I actually nurse him)
4. Sleep near your baby.
I don't want to sound bossy or pushy or anything but I was thinking back to when Myles was little (first 6 mo probably before solids) and remembering what my LC would say about snacks vs meals and since I couldn't remember exactly, I looked up the subject and found the below info:
ReplyDelete"The key factor in stimulating production of more milk is the frequency of sucking. Longer but less frequent periods of sucking is not as effective at increasing milk production. Nap nursing and night nursing are powerful stimulators of milk production, since the milk-producing hormones are best secreted while you are sleep."
I guess all that to say, in reference to your #3 that sometimes babies will eat a lot more frequent meals and sometimes it will seem like they are snacking, but often it is to build up more supply. I know it was overwhelming at times how often Myles nursed! But he also could get all the milk he needed quickly so that was good! It's great you are researching & reading things!! :)
I love this new picture and have to say you look radiant! You'll make a great mommy and you and Matt together will be great parents! The most important guide book for raising a family is the Bible, but all your other prep and reading are great contributing factors also. I am looking forward to seeing that big baby bump in person :) Love ya, Lynette
ReplyDeleteNot trying to be bossy, but just thought I would pass on what I learned as I breast fed my four. Micah will let you know exactly how long and how often he needs to nurse. Some babies will "snack", meaning frequent short nursing times. Some will start out on a nice schedule and will have a few long "meals" with a snack or two in between. Allowing them to set their own schedule, especially for the first three months, will ensure you have a good supply the whole time you chose to nurse. Your milk supply will easily adapt to his needs, but his needs will have a much more difficult time adapting to a schedule. In other words, you can lead a baby to a breast....but you can't make him nurse any longer than he wants to!!! LOL You are going to do beautifully! Enjoy every second, it goes sooooo fast!
